I am fresh off a weekend spiritual retreat with 24 other beautiful women. We gathered together in the spectacular mountains of Southern California for a time of rest and renewal. We were looking forward to some fellowship and encouragement.
As we gathered around the campfire on night one of our retreat, there was an awesome time of sharing. These women were able to share some of the things that were weighing them down, the burdens that were heavy on their hearts, the emotions that had been holding them captive. What a sweet time that was! What a blessing to see the bond of trust being formed, and the total transparency of these women. My heart was deeply touched by their honesty.
As the weekend went on, it was a blessing to see these women forming special bonds and friendships through the struggles they shared. What an encouraging thing it is to find you are not alone in your specific struggle, there is another woman out there going through something much like what you are going through. What a comfort to know that someone else shares those experiences and emotions. The weight of our burdens gets much lighter when we can share them, especially when we share them with someone who really understands. Many words of encouragement and support were spoken that weekend. Many prayers were prayed over these women, for their specific needs. I saw the Holy Spirit doing a beautiful thing during those few days. I saw him creating a wonderful support system where women come together and share each other’s burdens, helping each other through the valleys so that they can rise to the next peak.
Ladies, we are called to support each other. Galatians 6:2 says Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. We need to be there for each other…for our struggles, our uncertainties, our hurts from failed dreams, our anger and depression, our worries over our husbands and our children, our feelings of self-doubt, our hopelessness. We need to reach out in love and compassion and take our sister’s hand, supporting her, encouraging her, sharing God’s word with her, and reminding her how unique, marvelous, and special she is in the eyes of her Savior.
Look around you. Is there a woman who could use your support? Reach out! Could you use the support of another sister in Christ? Reach out! Let’s carry each other’s burdens. When we walk together, they are not quite so heavy.
